Believing God Will Deliver Me

Will you trust me in all areas of your life? Will you believe me–that I am good–in all moments? Will you believe I am steadfast and steady you in all circumstances–though you don’t know when, how, or how long?

God delivers–but the how and when of that delivery becomes the training grounds for our life. Will we trust Him? Do we believe He will do what He says even if it is not how we would plan for it to go?

* * *

As you get comfortable– either lying down or sitting up, walking or resting–breathe deeply, offering this prayer to God as you inhale: I trust You.

And then exhale: I am here.

Let Him settle you, his presence filling your heart and mind. Be here, your heart and mind present in this moment with Him.

I trust You, God.

I am here.

Be here, in this place. Be here with Him.

I trust You, God.

I am here.

Ask for His help in making you aware of your presence with Him (mentally, physically, and emotionally). He is here. He is with you.

Consider where you are mentally and emotionally now. Where is your mind taking you? What thoughts and concerns are weighing you down? Give each of those concerns/ fears/worries to Him now:

Lord, fill my heart with your presence. I surrender to you my mind. Here are my worries right now. (Name them.) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

God, take each one.

Keep breathing.

I trust You, God.

I am here.

Next, spend 10-15 minutes considering the following verses, letting God lead your mind and heart to absorb their meaning. As you read the words, allow your heart to be open.

Praise be to the Lord my Rock,
who trains my hands for war,
my fingers for battle (Psalm 144: 1-2, NIV).

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think (Ephesians 3:20, NIV).

I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry (Psalm 40:1, ESV).

Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord (Psalm 27:14, NIV).

We are given no signs from God;
no prophets are left,
and none of us knows how long this will be (Psalm 74:9, NIV).

Psalm 18:34, ESV
He trains my hands for war,
so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze (Psalm 18:34, ESV).

Next, after you have read over each of the verses a few times, slowly, without rushing, consider what words in these verses have captured your attention more than others. What are they? Write those down.

Then, choose a verse–or a few—and use your journal to continue the conversation God has started with you as you read them.

  • Who is God? What is He capable of?

    • God, you are:

    • I believe and/or don’t believe this about You:

  • Name any agreement or tension you feel within you as you read these verses. For instance, how do you feel about Him training you for battle? Do you believe that He does train you? In what areas of your life do you feel like He is inviting you to accept his training? (Ask Him.) Do you want to give him praise for that?

    • Father, when I read these verses, I feel:

    • In these battles in my life, I feel:

    • Tell me more about how you are training me.

    • I praise you for:

  • Do you believe He can accomplish more than you might ask or think? Talk to Him about that.

    • Lord…

Conclude this time with God by speaking aloud–or writing in your journal–the verses that resonate most deeply with you. Change the language (the pronouns, perhaps), if necessary, so that you are using these verses to talk right to Him.

Don’t rush this. Let your heart lean into His presence with you.

  • I feel you speaking these verses to my heart, Lord:

Finally, engage in worship of Him, giving Him praise for the battles where He trains you and equips you to trust Him even more.

  • Name the ways He can help you in your life, in your specific battles.

    • Lord, I trust You now with these areas of my life:

Amen.
