Flow Through Me Now, Holy Spirit
Let your heart be still as the water moves you, and you move with it. Let it move you—the water and the wind.

It isn’t often second nature to live in complete surrender and trust so that we feel the Holy Spirit’s presence and movement in us as we go about our days. It requires going deeper, a desire to abide with God, and an open heart and action.
May He flow through us. May we rest here, in His love, as the water holds us up and flows through us—as we let it carry us and move with it.
Let’s go.
* * *
Retreat to a quiet place where you will be undisturbed. Set everything down that you might have been holding, and get comfortable. With your hands open in your lap, close your eyes and breathe deeply for a few minutes, feeling the extension of your diaphragm as you inhale through your nose and the rise of your chest as you exhale through your mouth.
As you inhale, pray; “Holy Spirit….”
As you exhale, pray: “flow through me.”
What burdens are you carrying now? What feels heavy within you?
Name the worries…
Name the pain…
Name the fear…
Name the doubt…
Name the relationship that needs help…
Name your burdens, and give Jesus each one you carry right now…
Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit, I love You and come to You with desperation and a wide-open heart.
(Share with Him what you are thinking and feeling. name what you are surrendering.)
I consecrate my mind, my heart, and my body. Fill me now. Help me to hear You and experience your love.
Next, read the following passage from John 7:37-39 and picture the scene as if you are physically standing there, in the crowd:
“On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified” (John 7: 37-39).
Read the passage a few times, and converse with Jesus now. Below are some questions to consider:
When Jesus asks if you are thirsty, what do you say to Him?
When He invites you, in your thirst, to come to Him and drink, what do you believe He is offering you? (First, how are you thirsty? Second, what do you need now? Third, do you think Jesus can satisfy your needs?)
When He stands and calls out to you to come and drink, what exactly is He promising you, specifically in your circumstances? (Ask Him…and listen for His response.)
In prayer, as in invitation for this encounter, I heard the Holy Spirit speak these words:
Sit in the quiet with Me. I have much to show you. There is so much I want you to know.
Practice knowing Me—like you know Me. Do not stay in the shallows. It is especially dangerous there. Go deeper, deeper with Me to be held, grounded, and restored. You know this. You know Me. Do not forget Me.
Develop your heart to hold more of Me—to remain with Me at all times. You are on solid ground then. You are okay then. Do not be tossed about on the waves. Be on—and in—the water with Me (your new place of being grounded), but not from a place of overwhelm.
Let your heart be still as the water moves you, and you move with it. Let it move you—the water and the wind. No control is necessary—but holding onto Me is. Let yourself be moved as I move in you and through you. Let us be one—not separate, not distinct. Let it be that you don’t know where, in you, I begin and end, for I am everywhere in you, filling you completely as I move and flow.
This is the next step in holding beauty, soaking in beauty. You let it pass through you, and you welcome its passing through.
Stay engaged with Holy Spirit as you let His words sink deep into your heart. What is your response? Consider writing it out to Him in your journal.
Listen closely to what He is saying to you. And may we go deeper, deeper, letting Him flow through us now.
Amen.
