What Happens In the Gaze
Dear one, let us be here. Let us be loved. Let our gaze be His gaze. Let us fall together, and let us be lifted up.
Things will be better then. Things will be good.
I believe this. I believe this.
May we believe.
Today’s Encounter is simple–and, I think, profound. It is what we need most–our gaze to become the Father’s gaze, our heart His heart, our breath His breath.
Retreat to a quiet place where you can be undisturbed and alone. Empty your hands. Relax your shoulders and neck. Breathe deeply for a few moments with your eyes closed. (Don’t rush this.)
Inhale for a count of four.
Hold for a count of four.
Exhale for a count of four.
Now, consider these questions: How are you feeling? What is on your heart and mind? What do you need most? (Do you know?)
As you breathe deeply, feeling your body relax and settle into this space, consecrate your mind, heart, and body to Jesus. Give Him your full attention; surrender to Him every concern, worry, thought, and preoccupation. Be specific, using words to describe to Him what you feel pressing on you.
Jesus, I consecrate my imagination and mind, my heart and body…
Jesus, I give You….
With your eyes still closed and your hands, palms up, open on your lap, continue to breathe deeply and evenly. Give Jesus your imagination. Ask Him to help you picture Him sitting with you, across from you, now.
Jesus, I see You…
Contemplate Numbers 6:24-26 as you picture Jesus’s eyes, His gaze upon you. Let His gaze penetrate you, fill you.
“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”
For the next 20 minutes (or more), do nothing else but sit with Jesus, experiencing His gaze and His love for you as your eyes meet. Be here. Be here. Be here.
Experience His love for you. Let it in. Let Him in.
Amen.
