Just Us Two

Dear one, I am here. Let me gather you up now. All the pieces. All of you. You are all I want.

Can I just be with you now, Lord? Can I not do a thing but be here? Can you help me see you and feel you? Will you help me relax in this space?

* * *

Your Father has you. Holy Spirit is in you. You are so dearly loved.

Find a place where you can be comfortable and relax. Grab some pillows and a blanket. Maybe take off your shoes and burrow down. Get cozy.

Are you comfy? Okay...now take a deep breath. In…out…. Do this for a few minutes, maybe praying this prayer:

Lord, you are here.
I love you.

Let your body settle down. Feel the rise and fall of your lungs as they fill with–and release–air.

Next, consecrate (dedicate) this time to God, inviting Holy Spirit to lead you. Surrender your mind–your thoughts and intentions, your concerns and fears. Give Him each one as you contemplate and pray Psalm 51:10:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Jesus, I give You______________________________________________________________

Take a deep breath, inviting your heart to connect with your imagination, and picture Jesus with you. Imagine His face; feel His gaze. Stay here for a few moments, just you two.

When you feel ready, sit up–slowly rolling your head to gently stretch your neck.  Then shrug your shoulders up and down,  pushing them up and away from your ears. Finally, rotate your wrists and invite God into this fun activity we will do next.

Lord, I invite you into my heart. Let me follow where You lead me now. I love that you’re here.

We’re now going to transition to an interactive activity, just you and God.

For the next 30 minutes or so, using paper and pens (or colored pencils or whatever sounds fun to you), you get to make a list with God. This is not an ordinary list–it is a list that you are going to draw instead of write. The list can be about anything you want–whatever you feel God invites you to create with Him.

Here are some ideas:

  • The places we love to go

  • The things we love to do

  • The plans we have

  • The adventures (the stories) we tell

  • The gifts I’ve given you/The gifts you’ve received from Me

  • The desires I’ve placed in your heart

  • The ways you make Me smile

  • The music we love

  • The kinds of moments that make us crack up

  • The silly things we like to say

  • The secret ways we love people

  • The love notes we write (to other people and to each other)

  • The things we love about family

  • The things that drive us crazy

  • What certain colors make us think of

  • The things we like to do together on sunny days, and on rainy days, etc.

  • The snacks we like to eat

  • The things we do to feel cozy

  • The dreams we have for the future

  • The photo album of memories we collect in our hearts

  • The ways I’ve helped you find peace

Your list does not need to be information arranged in a column, line, or row. Arrange the drawings however you like. There is no right or wrong. This is just an opportunity for you to encounter God–feeling His love for you as you listen for His voice in your heart and you create this list together.

Let Him guide you. Have fun!

Amen.
